17 October 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Old Brightonian and past Governor, Ian Wilfred Dodd (Junior School, 1950-1956, Hampden House, 1956-1960). After having suffered a heart attack, Ian died on Monday 17th October, 2016.

The OB office is sad to report the death of Mrs Margaret Ridler, who died peacefully at home on Wednesday 22 June, aged 86.

Bill Blackshaw, who was Headmaster of the college from 1971 to 1987 died peacefully at home in Rottingdean on Friday 27 May. He had a huge impact on the school during his 16 years of headship, increasing numbers markedly, introducing co-education in the Sixth Form and overseeing the greatest building programme of the post-war era.

We are sad to report the death of Keren Burton, the recently retired head of Girls Games at Brighton College Prep School. A funeral service will be held at Woodvale Crematorium (North) on Thursday May 26th 2016, at 11am.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dr Dudley Moore, BA, LLM, MPhil, MA, MSt, PIfA, FSA, Barrister. There will be a funeral service at St Nicholas Church, Bramber on Friday 19th February at 1.30pm and afterwards at St Marys House, Bramber.

We are saddened to hear that Robin Grose (S. 1964-67) died 15th December 2015, from brain cancer, aged 65. Our sincere condolences to his wife, Annie and all who knew him.

We are sad to report the death of Peter Dingemans, who has died in hospital at the age of 80, having contracted pneumonia. His naval career is aptly summed up in the title his book: 'My Incredible Journey: from Cadet to Commander'. He entered the Royal Navy a year after leaving school and from the outset proved to be an able tactician, notably as an anti-submarine specialist. He had four commands in his career, the peak of which came in 1982 when he commanded with such distinction HMS Intrepid in the South Atlantic.
