This year's Young Enterprise company, Monster Publishing, won the coveted prize for Best Product at last week's area finals for their hugely popular children's book ‘The Monster Guide to Brighton: A Sweet Surprise'.

They say that in Snowdonia it is possible to see four seasons in one day. Unfortunately for the 25 Gold participants that ventured to North Wales this Easter break they really only encountered the one. Winter. For four days and three nights our two assessed and two practice groups displayed true British stoicism as they battled against torrential rain, flooded rivers and some rather unfortunately flooded tents.

Congratulations to William Emery, L5th, on gaining a place at the Youth Music Theatre UK. This is a National Organisation which mounts several productions each year. Competition for places in the cast is fierce and it is an outstanding achievement for William to be successful in a particularly tough audition process. Well done!

In what was probably the second most anticipated event of Royal Wedding week, the front quad was decked out in red, white and blue on Thursday 28th April to celebrate the forthcoming marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Professor Leslie Collier (H. 1934-37), who died on March 14 aged 90, was a virologist and bacteriologist who built on the earlier work of such scientists as Edward Jenner in helping to develop a vaccine that led to the eradication of smallpox; he also made major contributions to the understanding of trachoma, a disease which causes blindness in tropical countries.
