Much to the delight of the chamber choir and Alex Sansbury (U6th, Hampden) who memorably performed with the Pink Floyd legend, David Gilmour generously entertained guests with performances from his latest album Rattle that Lock, and the evocative Wish You Were Here.

Treasures from the Archive: Proclamation from the Third Anglo-Burmese War

Earlier this month, I gave a short talk to our 4th Form Academic Society. Deciding on a theme was tricky, but since I’d recently worked on the school’s roll of honour – ensuring it was ready for our new memorial statue – the theme of ‘conflict’ seemed fitting.

Every Boy Remembered - an update

The Brighton College Roll of Honour lists 147 former pupils killed during the Great War. One of the first two officers killed in the conflict was Second Lt. Vincent Waterfall, of Hampden House/Chichester House, aged just 22. Old Brightonians fought and died in Palestine, at the Somme, at Ypres, and in the final push for victory in the week before the Armistice was signed, on 11 November 1918.

Shoreham Air Disaster Sponsored walk in aid of Robert Eaton Memorial Fund

Following the truly awful tragedy that unfolded during the Shoreham Air Show that took the lives of so many - including young footballer Jacob Schilt as he travelled to play for Worthing United - the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund is organising a sponsored walk from the crash site to the Worthing ground, thus covering the journey that Jacob didn't finish.

Almost a thousand A* grades at GCSE

I am writing to report some excellent GCSE results, with a record number of A* grades. I suspect they will again be the best of any co-ed school in England and certainly among the top three such schools. 100% of grades were at A*-C, with a record number of A* grades: almost a thousand!

Welcome to our 2015 leavers; our youngest Old Brightonians!

A warm welcome to our newest members of the Old Brightonians; our leavers of 2015. On Thursday 25th June we celebrated at the College with a service for our leavers, and after the traditional leavers photographs on the lawn the College then celebrated with a Graduation Ceremony for Upper 6th Leavers.

In the Telegraph last week, Brighton College head girl Charlotte Haney responded to the assertions by Rhiannon Wilkinson, head of Wycombe Abbey, that single-sex education is better for teenage girls because it takes the pressure of them trying to impress boys in a “sexualised world”.

The first inaugural ‘Medical Conference’ took place in the Rose Lecture Theatre on the evening of Wednesday 6th of May. Over 50 Upper Fifth and Lower Sixth students were in attendance, including some from Cardinal Newman and Hove Park schools.

Brighton College to re-introduce boaters as homage to our fallen OBs

Head Master Richard Cairns is re-introducing the classic Brighton College Boater for the first time in 47 years. The decree is a moving homage to the 147 Old Brightonians who died during the Great War, and will be in force from Thursday 23rd April to coincide with St. George's Day.
