The first inaugural ‘Medical Conference’ took place in the Rose Lecture Theatre on the evening of Wednesday 6th of May. Over 50 Upper Fifth and Lower Sixth students were in attendance, including some from Cardinal Newman and Hove Park schools.

The event started with five fascinating talks from members of the medical profession, including Professor Kevin Davies, Head of Medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Dr Sarah Wilson, a GP, Dr Susie Hollamby, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Hatty Martin, a final year medical student at BSMS, and Dr David Ross, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. Each talk gave a unique personal insight on life in the medical profession and the rewards and challenges of this career. After the talks we moved to the Smith café where we were joined by a number of other medical practitioners. This point of the evening gave the students a great opportunity to talk one-on-one with doctors representing a wide range of practice areas. IWe have since have received many comments from students on just how much they enjoyed the evening and how it has inspired them to pursue a career in medicine. Particular thanks go out to our speakers for the evening and those who attended the drinks afterwards for giving of their time so generously to support our pupils.
